Last night I was in the center of Emmen to start my second project: Images of Emmen. It is the city where I live and with this project I would like to show you my view on Emmen. Besides the fact that I recently started the Drenthe project, I really want to start Emmen. The photos I take for the Emmen project will therefore not be shown in the Drenthe project or vice versa. This is a conscious choice, because I don’t like seeing a photo in multiple projects.
While taking my first picture, 2 ladies came up to me to ask if I was going to photograph the roof of the Atlastheatre. That certainly was at that time very beautiful, because the light from the golden hour there seemed nice. After a nice conversation, I also continued to visualize this square.
When you stand at front of the Atlas Theater on the town hall square, you will see the covered shopping center De Weiert on the other side. For this photo I used my big stopper from Benro, which I am still experimenting with. Despite there is a lot of noise in this images, I’m very satisfied with this picture. Of course I immediately looked up the internet to avoid the noise for next time. This was quite simple by changing a setting in the camera, something I haven’t done since I got this canon.
While taking this picture, I was distracted because some young people were setting off some fireworks. As a result, not the entire building was photographed, which is a shame. For here I knew I could better use my wide angle lens, but I didn’t do this because of the fireworks. Still, I’m happy with this picture. Since I will be shooting here more often, I assume that next time I will not be bothered by young people setting off fireworks.
You can’t just walk past this yellow work of art that glows in the dark. He really stands out and represents the connection between the zoo of Wildlands and the old center of Emmen. In my eyes this artwork is really beautiful in ugliness. Because during the day I think it’s just an ugly thing, only in the dark does this work certainly something beautiful. In that respect, art can unleash a lot in someone and I think that’s the beauty of art.
We have already come to the last image I took last night, which is almost identical to photo 2 of this series. I only made this one without the big stopper, which in my eyes makes it a bit quieter because there is not noise visible. I do think the composition of photo 2 is better than this image, that’s why I also shared both photos in this series.
The first series of Project Emmen is now a fact! I will regularly photograph this and next year in Emmen and I hope to finish this in a year. Although it wouldn’t surprise me that it will be a two-year project, since I don’t want to rush. As a result, I do not look back satisfied when I have completed a project.
Lots of love
