Normally I wouldn’t have taken any photos in Nieuw-Amsterdam. It is a small village close to Emmen in the province of Drenthe. This village is nice to get your groceries, but I don’t think it is really photogenic to capture this place. But last Wednesday, club evening with a panoramic view as the subject. So, I thought it would be nice to add a picture of this series to my project Drenthe which I recently started.
This evening I went a little earlier than the agreed time, but I was supposed to meet the group at the agreed time. luckily I am well known in this small village and I actually only had 2 places in mind to take a panoramic images here. Only the first place was very disappointing. I wasn’t happy with this photo and therefore decided not to keep it. I had better luck in second place, although where I was standing was not really safe. I was standing at the side of the road in the verge and the cars drove past me quite fast. Well worth the effort, because this mill is the only place I think is a photogenic spot in this village.
After taking the photo of the mill, it was time to meet the group. There the group split up and I stayed at the bridge with Erwin, believe we both had the same feeling. What the hell are you supposed to take a panoramic photo of if you’re not inspired by the place. That’s why I decided to take a picture here on the bridge, because the colors were very nice as the sunset was approaching the end.
Personally, I like this photo the most I took this evening, despite the boats being maybe a little too dark. Only I was concentrated with the red lights of the cars. It was really hard to do that because I was here working with a long exposure and every time there was a backlight, so I also got white light streaks to. I finally got lucky with the last image when the blue hour was approaching the end.
Sometimes you just can’t plan things. It comes your way and you should gratefully use it. Because as I said, Nieuw-Amsterdam was not on my list for project Drenthe, which makes the view of this province more complete.
Lots of love,
